Ardor Labs is proud to announce its own version of a "Summer of Code" for 2010. Our theme is the Android mobile platform, and launching with the contest will be an alpha release of the Ardor3D-Android binding!

You will have the chance to participate in groups to build the next killer 3D mobile app using Ardor3D on the Android platform. Your group and others will describe their summer ambitions and the judges (along with registered community members) will vote on the top 3 apps. To help things along, these final three teams will be paid for their efforts: $500 up front and $1,000 on successful completion of the project.

See the post for more details. Full rules will be published on these forums by June 5th. :) The mentioned SDK will be available on the first day of summer. (no cheating!) :)

Looks like a very good way of encouraging people to the engine + a good way for the community to get involved! Anyone else fancing knocking out anything in a team with me (as a side project)?

I don't have any Android devices are there any good emulators you can use. Just wondering if someone had been playing around with java and android already? :)

Just for clarification ... each group present their app, I'm assuming some kind of design document or something, and the top three selections can continue with the contest and all other entries are eliminated?

The top three will receive sponsorship to continue their project. I would hope that folks that did not fall in that top 3 would either work together with the winning three groups or continue with their own ideas.

Hi,

When will more information & rules be made available? The deadline mentions 5th of June?

As a small introduction:
I am a "port" member from JMonkeyEngine and work(ed) on the following project: http://www.lumenon.nl/Projects/Explorer ... /v0023.jpg
Because of rising interest within my study (Knowledge Engineering @ Maastricht University, Netherlands), I have setup a medium coding & graphics group for development on the Android.
We are currently working on 4 game projects, and would like to qualify one of them for participation in the project. :-)

Rules are available here: http://www.ardor3d.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=730
At that same page you have a sample template for a project submission. Or you could do as others has done and use the wiki for that: http://ardor3d.com/wiki/SummerContest/2010/Besiege
The Android-Ardor3D binding will be out by the 21st.

That screenshot looks awesome! Looking forward to seeing a submission!
