Retro Pocket Games
Here's CfyAr submission: Retro Pocket Games
We added the body of the submission to the Wiki
http://ardor3d.com/wiki/retropocketgames
We're going to be doing all that we promised in any case, so if there aren't many submissions for the contest, we'd be happy to run "out-of-competition", that is, not going for the prizes, but we would really need the feedback the "regular" teams would get with the folks working with the Ardor3d-Android Binding.

Re: Retro Pocket Games
I just have a little note on your wiki entry.
Saying that you are going to produce AAA Games makes your entry sound a bit unrealistic
.
Just a few releases of all games every year can really be called AAA Games. They are usually in production for years with millions in investments and get high reviews in tests. Blizzard is a company that strive to release only AAA games and so far they have succeeded
.
Personally I would avoid using AAA as a hype word.

I understand where you're coming from -- I don't want to overhype it myself either. That said, to me, AAA games means highest production values and development process. In that sense, here at CfyAr we've been doing exactly that for over 3 years, in our market segment (namely, the gambling industry). You can see some captures of our work at our website http://www.cfyar.com and hopefully we'll have more as the newest batch (that uses Ardor3d exclusively) is officially released.
Given the constraints of the Android platform in terms of assets (for us, the biggest production bottleneck), I feel wholly confident that we can both invest the time and money neccesary to complete a AAA Android game within the year, and we're setting out to do just that -- whether the game is succesful is another matter entirely.
In any case, thanks for the feedback!

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I stumbled over the same line.
Tripple-A is large teams, big budget, current state of the art features or better and a publisher like EA or Activision paying upfront for its development.
Also see http://www.gameproducer.net/2006/05/26/ ... aa-titles/
Don't get us wrong, using "highest production values and development process" is what you should do,
but if you call that Tripple-AAA you might raise the expectations very high for people who understand it more traditional...
Whatever, just keep up the good work

Re: Retro Pocket Games
I understand and agree with your "AAA game" definition (thanks for the link btw). Perhaps I should tell you more about us, it might clarify where we are coming from.
CfyAr is my company, wholly owned and operated, been in blue numbers for 5 years, good credit should we ever want to use it, war chest to operate for another 12 months should I lose all my customers today, 7 full time resources + 1 hardware part timer + 1 part time artist. I believe we fit the AAA team definition for *Android Games*. Certainly we're 10-20 times smaller than what's necessary to produce a AAA console/PC game (and in that case, one would argue that Ardor3d, for reasons beyond renanse and rikard's control, would be the wrong Game Engine choice, simply because you can't quite run Java on the consoles).
So, I'm thinking of putting in over 4,000 (four thousand) man hours into this project. I feel this makes it a AAA game *for Android*. If you guys don't agree with my assessment, please share some links/numbers etc. as that kind of information is invaluable to me.
To wrap it up: I mean business, I'm dead serious, and I absolutely love criticism when it's well-meaning like your posts have been so far, so please keep 'em coming!

Re: Retro Pocket Games
My post was never meant as critisism towards your project. It was more how I and probably alot of people think of AAA.
There are Indie Games that are really well done and more fun than some AAA Games. I still wouldn't call them AAA Games since they are often done by a few people on a small budget.
So I guess having thought about it some more for me AAA is games with large budgets, supported by publishers that can hype and spend loads of money on commercials and shows like E3. Today I can't see any AAA releases on smaller platforms like mobile phones. But in the not so distant future when the hardware catches up some more I could see big game studios doing some kind of ports of their AAA games to hand held devices.
That said I look forward to try out your games when they are released

JP, what's the latest word?
Gratitude is a mark of a noble soul and a refined character.
