Beside that it was completely community driven.
Each article could be rated and you could add comments just like in a blog.

It is an excellent idea.

I created a little example of what I have in mind. It's static of course so the most work will be in the planning and code. Don't pay too much attention to this example - it's only there to show what a page should contain.

Cool, I'll bring this up in my meetings this week with possible web redesign folks. Other similar ideas would be great at this time.

I think we would all appreciate some free models to test our code (especially programmers and non-artists like me ;-) ). This could be as simple as a list of links or - if the authors allow that - we could host some models in Collada format and a link to the original source. That way we can save some time and start with testing right away.
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one here who googles for free models and/or spends hours trying to bring them in a usable format.
Of course we can only host models with a permissive license like GPL, CC-BY or similar.

I agree with you, I wasted days in converting my models to collada, it failed for MD2 models :( "My" models are under Artistic License 2.0, feel free to use them and thank Psionic3D, Otto The Cleaner, Maxime Comte, ... Your dog is fine.

I have just looked at your example, it is cool, understandable, simple. I could contribute too but I would be unable to explain so simply how to implement finite regular and irregular grids, voxels, portals, cells. I could at least explain how to implement a smaller equivalent of the game state machine used in XNA (I tinkered a bit the switch node to do what I want).

Finally, if you need to draw huge levels quickly, have a look at JFPSM, it is slowly becoming more user-friendly, it exports maps directly in Ardor3D binary format (maybe one day in collada). I have to plan to speak about it in the showcase section in some weeks.

I'm sure you're models are highly appreciated. :-)

Regarding the example of the resource code page. It should serve just as that: an example.
Depending on the topic expect a description to go from some lines to several pages.
In the repository I refer to some explanations span over several articles and would take dozens of pages if printed to paper while others are simple enough to be explained with some sentences and figures.

For the 0.7, it would be good to have jogl supported on linux (specially Ubuntu).

Hmm, I have 32bit ubuntu 8.04 and it runs fine there. I use eclipse though, not Netbeans.

By the way: I'd really like to see a forum without a fixed width. It looks a bit stupid with ~400px white (gray) space left and right but with scrollbars for even a small screenshot.
As far as I know it's a matter of a downloadable board style in phpBB.
